Things should never surprise anyone when it comes to the Newfoundland and Labrador Senior Hockey League (NLSHL).  Developments over Christmas have seen the Western Royals acquire the 2011 NLSHL Rookie of the Year, Chad Earle from the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts in exchange for net minder Doug Jewer.

Ross Coates, president of the Royals have indicated Earle will be in place when they face the Gander Flyers on January 5 at the Hodder Memorial Stadium in Deer Lake.

Jewer found himself as a third goalie after the Royals had acquired Bryan Gillis.  Coates was fielding calls as to the availability of Jewer and Coates felt he was getting a solid player in return for the experienced goaltender.  Earle was seeing limited ice time in the Cataracts organization and the move provides both organizations with the necessary talent to fill holes.

Earle has 1 goal and 11 assistst with the Cataracts so far this season, and in adding this young gun to the roster, Coates is making a move to acquire younger talent who will add some depth and scoring punch.
