IceCaps Lose to Penguins

The St. John’s IceCaps lost 5-3 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night.  The loss sees the St. John’s team end their road trip with a record of 2-1-0-0.

After some stellar performances, IceCaps goalie was beaten on the first shot on him in the matchup as Trevor Smith scored his eight goal of the season.  The Penguins went up 2-0 at the 3:07 mark when Pasquale let a harmless shot trickle by.

The IceCaps eventually tied the score in the second period but a late second period goal by Dylan Reese with just 20 seconds left in the second period.

Early in the third, Benn Ferriero put the Penguins up by two scoring at 2:14 of the perod.  The Caps pulled to within a single goal after Spencer Machacek made it 4-3 but the Penguins sealed the game with an empty netter.

The IceCaps were plagued with sloppy play and poor puck movement the entire game, turning over the puck several times resulting in multiple scoring chances by the Penguins.

Jason Jaffray led St. John’s with two assists.

The IceCaps take to the ice on December 7 when the Springfield Falcons come into the province to start a four-game home stand by the St. John’s crew.
