The Donnini’s Highschool Hockey Tournament is scheduled to take place in Grand Falls-Windsor from January 3 – January 5, 2014 as teams from 7 high schools take to the ice in search for the gold medal.

The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 5:30 pm on Friday, January 3rd but play will start at 2:00 pm as the defending champions the Holy Heart of Mary high school team from St. John’s lace up against last year’s runner-ups from the Exploit Valley High who are also the hosts for this tournament.  The home team favourites were also the champions for the 2012 tournament.

Play will take place at the Joe Byrne arena in Grand Falls throughout the weekend and will conclude with the championship game on Sunday at 3:00 pm.

This is one of the longest running and most prestigious high school hockey tournaments in Newfoundland and Labrador.  It started 14 years ago and has grown into one of the most anticipated invitational high school tournaments in the province, featuring teams from St. John’s, Mount Pearl and other parts of the island.

The tournament always takes place in the first weekend in January and this year will feature Gonzaga High School from St. John’s, Holy Heart of Mary High School from St. John’s, Holy Spirit High School from CBS, O’Donell High School from Mount Pearl, Gander Collegiate, Pearson Academy from New-Wes-Valley and the host team Exploits Valley High School from Grand-Falls Windsor.
