Chris Smith Backs St. John’s Privateers’ Win

TheSt. John’sPrivateers dumped the Central IcePak by a score of 7-4 in Saturday night’s action in theNewfoundlandand Labrador Major Midget Hockey League action.

Standing tall between the pipes was Chris Smith, facing 25 shots in the win.  The IcePak put a major push on in the third, peppering Smith but he kept his team ahead, allowing them to pick up this crucial win.

The Privateers scored early when Ben Cleary scored on a backhander.  Teammate Peter Kavanagh made it 2-0 until the IcePack’s Nick Fitzgerald scored making it 2-1 after the first period.

The IcePak stormed back, taking the lead 3-2 in the second period on goals by Cody Drover and Shawn Loveridge.  The Privateers dug deep and scored two straight power play goals, one by Lee Dower and the other by Andrew Haley, putting theSt. John’steam up 4-3.  Dylan Leary and Lucas Lush both scored to give the Privateers a 3-goal lead.  Cody Drover then scored his second of the night, making the score 6-4St. John’safter 2 periods of play.

Cameron Dunn of the Privateers added an insurance marker in the third.
