Cataracts Lose to Royals

The league leading Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts lose to the Western Royals by a score of 5-3 in game one of a home-and-home series.

The Cataracts rolled into the Hodder Memorial Stadium to play their first game since the Christmas break in the Newfoundland and Labrador Senior Hockey League (NLSHL).   After the Cataracts Kyle McQuirk scored on a broken play in front of the Royals net.  The Royals answered right back with a goal by Matthieu Berube.  The Royals went on to score two more unanswered goals in the first period after the Cataracts took a double minor, giving the Royals a two man advantage.  The Western Royals capitalized on the opportunity when Just Barbour scored to give the Royals a 2-1 lead.  Barbour later scored his second goal of the night to give the Royals a 3-1 lead after one period of play.

With no scoring in the second, the Cataracts made it a game scoring to make it 3-2 on a goal by Andre Gill.  Mark Robinson scored for the Royals to make it 4-2 and give the Royals a cushion.  The Cataracts battled back to make the score 4-3 and pulled their goalie for an extra attacker.  The comeback was not meant to be as Michael Hynes scored on the empty net.

Action resumes tomorrow night in Grand Falls-Windsor.
