The Central West Junior Hockey League has gotten off to a fast start this season, with three teams in the mix.

This season so far has the Bishop Falls Junior Express sitting atop the standings with a 9-1 record, followed by the Port Aux Basques Junior Mariners at 5-7 and the Stephenville Junior Jets at 2-8.

The Bishop Falls squad lost its first game of the season as they struggled with an extremely short bench against the stacked Port Aux Basque team.  With just 11 skaters, the Express faced an uphill battle, dropping its first game of the season.

However, they rebounded the following night, racking up a 7-4 victory against the Mariners.  Express captain Mike Vaters scored six goals in the game, leading the Bishop Falls team to victory.  He added an assist to give him a 7-point night.  This game showed the depth and perseverance of the great players in the JR-Express line-up.

The Express are now the team to beat, with the other teams in the league gunning for the first place team who ran up eight straight wins before losing their first.

The Bishop Falls Express are off now until January 12, when they will be in Stephenville.  You can check out the Bishop Falls Jr-Express on their website here.
