Mitchell Bragg made an instant impact scoring once and added an assist while the Bell Island Family Drug Mart Blues road the hot goaltending of Evan Giles to a 3-2 win Sunday night over the St. John’s Caps. Giles stopped all 14 3rd period shots on route to making 2 7 saves; none better than a highlight stick save on Kenny Mahoney with 9 min left in the first. Giles acrobatic efforts opened the door for a Blues powerplay that connected twice in the first giving the Blues a 2-0 first period lead, with Daniel Roberts and Grant Eavis finding the back of the net.   Mitch Bragg expanded the Blues lead to 3 early in the 2nd but the Caps answered with 2 late period goals off the sticks of Jeremy Barron and Vincent Paiemont.

A hard fought, scoreless 3rd period left the Blues standing on top with a 3-2 win, their 3rd win in as many games against the Caps. The Blues powerplay went 2 for 3 while the Caps went 1 for 8 with the man advantage.   Bell Island has earned points in each of the last 3 weekends and now have 9, good enough for 3rd place overall. The Blues return to action Friday December 14th in Mount Pearl in part one of the final home and home of 2012, game 2 goes Saturday December 15th on Bell Island.
